Class Descriptions

Alzheimer’s Lecture – Learn about the signs, symptoms and stages of this disease.

Babysitting 101 – If your 11-15 year old is interested in babysitting but isn’t quite sure they have the skills to do so, they are welcome to attend this FREE Babysitting 101 class! Participants will learn basics about child care including safety precautions, do’s and don’ts and first aid. Each child will get to put together their own first aid kit!

Back Pain Class and Screenings – Join Dr. Grogan to learn how to modify workouts around injuries and to reduce your back pain through functional movement and exercise. With an eight year history of personal training, and another eight years in clinical chiropractic practice, Dr. Grogan will discuss the most common back injuries that are experienced and strategies for managing your own back pain using rehabilitative techniques, weight training, and core strengthening. This class will be followed by spinal screenings. Please meet in the weight room and wear comfortable workout clothing.

Family Yoga – Bring the whole family (ages 6 and up) to work on basic poses that will help increase strength and flexibility, improve balance and reduce stress!

Keeping Kids S-A-F-E-R In and Around Water – Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1–4 and second for children ages 5–14. The good news is that drowning is the most preventable of accidents. The Swim On Foundation will present the 5 layers of protection to prevent drowning, using the acronym S-A-F-E-R (Swim lessons, Adult supervision, Fences, Emergency response and Regulation flotation).

Medication Matters Lecture – Join Pharmacist Kim Hoff, as she talks about the benefits, risks, administration and need indications for many commonly prescribed medications.

Powerlifting Basics & Beyond – During this introductory demonstration of the new powerlifting class offered at the Renaud Center, participants will work on learning the correct methods and executions of the three lifts in powerlifting in addition to the exercises and lifts that accompany them.

Preschool Open House – Join Renaud Center Pre-school teachers at this drop-in open house. Stations will be set up for preschool-aged kids to play while parents can ask the teachers questions about the program and explore the room. There will be program information as well as age milestone sheets for parents to take home.

Stop Heroin: The Opiate Epidemic and its Effect on Our Community – Opiate-based painkillers and heroin have become a health crisis in the United States, and no community is spared from its effects – in our county alone, paramedics respond to hundreds of overdose calls annually. In this session led by St. Charles County Ambulance District personnel, we’ll take a close look at the opiate epidemic and how it affects our community. We’ll discuss the science of addiction, why these drugs are so dangerous, and steps you can take to protect your family. Youth are welcome to attend with their parents to encourage an open dialogue, but given the intense nature of portions of the presentation, we recommend that attendees be in at least 6th grade.

Thyroid Health Lecture – The thyroid is the metabolic engine of the body. If your thyroid isn’t functioning optimally, then you’re not functioning optimally. When our thyroid function is disrupted, every organ system in the body suffers as a result. An estimated 20 million people suffer from some sort of thyroid disease. Come and learn what the signs of poor thyroid function are, what causes it, and what you can do about it.

What’s Lurking in Your Pantry – Join Trischa Smith RN, BSC for this lecture on what might be lurking in your pantry! Learn valuable tips on how to give your pantry a makeover. Discover hidden sugars and toxins, explore healthier alternatives, learn to read and understand food labels and learn which common foods may actually be harming your health.

ZUMBA Happy Hour – Join the dance party! ZUMBA instructor Diana Perez will guide an easy-to-follow dance workout with fun music and a party atmosphere.  The workout will be an hour long followed by 30 minutes of snacks, beverages and more.
